Designer Cinder Blocks for construction

October 17, 2007 at 7:39 am (Art, Oddly Intriguing)

So, they’re making designer cinder blocks, now. It’s pretty freaking cool, if you ask me. They have 12 block designs, and the patterns you get on the wall (All 3-D patterns, they are) depend on the way you turn and stack the blocks. Each block has 2-6ish different ‘looks’ you can achieve by stacking them in varying patterns. For example, this:

Equals this:

Note the cool way the water runs off the building, in this configuration. (I’m pretty sure this is a fake rendering of a theoretical wall, but whatever.)

Visit the site to see all 12 blocks, and their patterns (some of which are more interesting than this one…). It’d be sweet if I ever saw a building made with them.
